Environmental Improvement Programme

Extensive consultation with customers has been completed to identify the best way to invest the Environmental Improvement Budget. Customer opinion suggested that most tenants wanted the budget to be top sliced to enable tenants wanted the budget to be top sliced to tackle important longstanding problems in particular areas; this includes improved security to the Friargate and Cross Street areas of Scarborough's Old Town area, and also improved security at the Lockeys Terrace and Taylorson Terrace area of Whitby. Other initiatives identified as benefiting from these funds included additional fencing at Woodland Avenue (Scarborough) to help tackle anti-social behaviour, and mobile CCTV cameras to be used in problem areas, to monitor anti-social behaviour.

The remainder of the budget was divided into three distinct geographical areas as decided by tenants via a survey that took place in November and December 2005. It was decided that the areas should be divided as:

Whitby and northern area villages

Scarborough North

Scarborough South (including Eastfield, Filey and surrounding villages)

Further consultation with tenants identified a need for better security lighting on properties; subsequently the budget has been used to facilitate the installation of security lights while the improvements to the kitchens and bathrooms are conducted.

Updated information on the Environmental Improvement Programme will be posted on the website at regular intervals, informing tenants of the consultation events in the Old Town area of Scarborough and Lockeys Terrace area of Whitby.
