Can I get help with my rent?
Yes. If you are on any kind of low income, even if you are in full time employment, you may be entitled to financial help with your housing costs.
You can get a housing benefit claim form from any Yorkshire Coast Homes or most Scarborough Borough Council offices or online at Scarborough Borough Council's website www.scarborough.gov.uk
We can help you fill in the form, a member of the Council’s housing benefit section or one of their visiting team may be able to call at your home, depending on your circumstances, if you need their help.
Do not delay applying for benefit, even if you are not sure you will receive any, as it is not normally backdated.
What happens if my family’s income changes?
It may affect the housing benefit you are entitled to and you should contact your Arrears Officer as soon as possible, who will help you complete a change of circumstances form and will forward this to the benefits office on your behalf.
You will also be advised of how much rent to pay.
