What happens to my application?
Your application will be acknowledged by letter and if there are medical grounds to support your application a housing officer may visit you at your current home. The reason for this visit is to assess your need for rehousing, to discuss the type of accommodation you require and the area in which you wish to live. If you live outside the Borough of Scarborough we will contact you by letter or telephone, we may also ask an officer from your local Council to conduct a visit on our behalf.
How long will I have to wait?
This depends on the priority of your circumstances under Yorkshire Coast Homes' policy and the availability of accommodation in your preferred areas.
Our staff can advise you on the availability and demand for the type of property you want.
Do I have to fill in a new form each year?
No, but you will be contacted each year and asked if you wish to remain on the waiting list. It is important that you reply by the time stated otherwise your application will be cancelled.
What happens should a property be offered to me?
You will be sent a letter giving you details of the property and asking you to contact the Allocations Team in order to confirm whether you would like to accept the property or not.
Can I see the property before I move in?
An accompanied visit will be arranged when the property is available for viewing. An officer will arrange to meet you at the property and answer any questions you may have.
When you view the property you will be required to decide whether you are accepting the tenancy and if so an appontment will be made for you to sign the Tenancy Agreement.
What if the first offer of accommodation I receive is unsuitable?
If you turn down an offer of accommodation it is important that you tell us why the property was unsuitable. If you refuse a suitable property in an area of your choice, then your application will may suspended for 6 months from the date of refusal.
The Points Scheme
We run a points based lettings scheme where points are awarded to take into account the particular circumstances of the applicant.
Points are allocated according to your housing need and the unsuitability of your current home. We award points for factors such as if your property is overcrowded, for medical need, for social or economic reasons e.g. to be nearer to work, a special facility or to give or receive support. You will also receive 2 points for each year you complete on the Housing Register.
