Former Tenant Arrears
If your Yorkshire Coast Homes tenancy has ended and you owe rent arrears or any other related debts you must contact us immediately to arrange payment of your debt.
Owing money from a former tenancy may prevent you from being rehoused with Yorkshire Coast Homes, any other housing association, or, Council. We would not provide any private landlords with a good tenancy reference.
Potentially older debts may be reinstated if you apply for housing with us.
For information on how to pay your outstanding debt please click here.
If you fail to contact us or pay your outstanding debt, then the following courses of action may be taken:
The commencement of legal action which could result in the following:
• County Court Judgment being entered against you which would make it difficult for you to obtain credit; You may be responsible for any other costs that are incurred;
• A County Court bailiff visiting your property and taking possession of your belongings which would be sold to help pay off your debt;
• The County Court instructing your employer to make deductions direct from your salary;
Other action that we could take, may include:
• The obtaining of a charging order which would stop you from selling your property without first paying us the debt;
• The case being referred to a debt collection agency;
• A tracing agency being used to confirm where you live if you fail to leave a forwarding address;
• We can refuse to rehouse you in the future whilst any debt remains outstanding.
Please do not ignore the matter. If you are experiencing difficulties paying, please contact us as we may be able to help. You can contact the Former Tenant Arrears Officer via email to info@ych.org.uk or any of the options available in the Contact section of this website.
