The recently completed Helredale Gardens development has provided a total of 105 high quality, traditionally built new homes to meet the housing needs of both individuals and families.
The £10.6m scheme was carried out by Esh Property Services for Yorkshire Coast Homes and Scarborough Borough Council and comprises a selection of houses, flats and one bungalow.
The first phase of the project was completed in time for the first nine former residents of the existing St Peter’s Road flats to collect the keys for their brand new homes on Rohilla Close just before Christmas 2016 – the remainder of the Helredale Gardens part of the development was completed later in 2017.
Fourteen homes were marketed for outright sale, while the remaining 91 properties were made available for affordable renting through North Yorkshire Home Choice – with a localised lettings agreement ensuring that households with a local connection to Whitby, and who had a recognised housing need, were prioritised over households with no local connection to the Whitby area.
The regeneration of Whitby’s St Peter’s Road is now under way following the demolition of the existing flats which, in terms of the quality, design and access standards that Yorkshire Coast Homes (YCH) have established for their tenants, had reached the end of their serviceable life.
This phase of the project will yield a further 33 new properties, including 1, 2 and 3 bedroom homes, 4 of which will be made available for purchase. YCH is expecting to take possession of these within the next few weeks.
